Little Witches
Spells and potions,magic too,
These all make a witches brew
Toils and troubles, boils and bubbles,
These all get you into muddles.

Big pot burning on a fire high,
Flames reaching up intto the sky
Nights as black as a coal oven

Stars all shining in the sky
Black hat standing very high
Little kitten black as jet
Sitting as the witches pet

Children sitting in a row
watching the fire all aglow
Halloween is here once more
Trick or treating galore

Little witches faces glowing
Tiredness, their bodies slowing
Time to do what mother said,
Time to go home to bed.
Sandra Rowell

When witches go riding, and black cats are seen, the moon laughs and whispers, ‘tis near Halloween.

PUMPKIN
We bought a fat orange pumpkin,
The plumpest sort they sell.
We neatly scooped the inside out
and only left the shell.
We carved a funny funny-face
of silly shape and size,
A pointy nose,
a jagged mouth and two enormous eyes.
We set it in a window
and we put a candle in,
Then lit it up
for all to see our jack-o-lantern grin.

**

A gypsy fire is on the hearth
Sign of the carnival of mirth;
Through the dun fields and from the glade
Flash merry folk in masquerade,
For this is Hallowe’en!

Halloween Magic

A bald-headed ghost drank some witches' brew
And on top of his head a strange thing grew.
It was pointed and tall and black as a bat
With stringy long hair where his head was flat.

The sad little ghost didn't want any hair
Or a black pointed hat so he said, "Witch beware!"
Then he chanted some words with a spell-casting switch
And gave Halloween Night a bald-headed witch!!
Barbara M. Hales

Black cats and pointy hats,
brooms gliding through the air.
A witch’s brew made just for you,
drink it if you dare!

**

**

When bats are flying across a sky so low,
and the night is lit by the full moon’s glow,
and ghosts and goblins can be seen on the street,
you know it’s time for Trick or Treat!

Trick or Treat Bag

You will need
Tissue Paper
White Gift Bag
PVA Glue
Self adhesive foam sheets
Glitter Glue Pens
Ribbon
paintbrush
Scissors

1...Tear some orange tissue into squares about 4cm big. Starting at the base of the bag brush on watered down PVA glue and place the squares randomly on top.

2...Brush on more PVA glue to cover tissue and continue until you have covered all sides of the bag and then leave to dry.

3...Cut some 4cm wide strips of green sticky foam. On the referse draw 2 lines down each strip 7mm from the edges. mark the lines at 1cm intervals and join up every other mark to make zigzag pattern.

4...Cut along the zigzags and fix the strips to the top and bottom of the bag.

5...Cut lots of stars from black sticky foam and bat or cat shapes from purple. Stick these to the bag and decorate with a gold glitter pen.

6...Choose some green, purple and orange ribbons and tie short pieces to the handles of the bag.

TOP TIP

These make great gift bags: try decorating them with tree shapes or holly for Christmas

Pumpkin Lantern

1...Cut a piec of orange foam 10cm by 21cm and fold in half lengthways. use some sticky tape to hold the open edge in place. Cut lots of slits from the fold down to 5mm from the edge, making the slits 1 cm apart.

2...remove the tape and open out the foam. Use a double sided tape to fix the rectangle into a slotted tube.

3...bend a green pipe cleaner into an arch and turn up the ends. Fit the arch inside the tube and clip the ends over the end on each side to form a handle.

4...Cut two 1 cm wide strips of green self adhesive foam and wrap areound the top and bottom of the tube.Push the tube down so the slots open up and make bends in the arch of the pipe cleaner to hold the tube in a pumpkin shape.

5...Cut a leaf shape from green foam and pierce a hole in the top. Thread a green pipe cleaner through halfway and wind the ends around a paintbrush to make curly tendrils. Twist the tendrils onto the handle of the pumpkin.

6...Cut out triangles and a mouth shape from black self adhesive foam and decorate the front of your lantern.

You could make loads to make a lantern garland
