Memorial Day Poems
Welcome to the Memorial Day Poems webpage dedicated to this very special day in May. This is a very special time to remember our loved ones who have died alongside remembering our service men and women. Flowers and flags and parades and dedications of memorials are part of the day's activities. Members of the armed service, fire departments, police departments,Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and local marching bands throughout the land march in parades and attend ceremonies to commemorate the day.

Do Not Stand At My Grave And Weep
Do not stand at my grave and weep, I am not there, I do not sleep. I am in a thousand winds that blow; I am the softly falling snow.
I am the gentle showers of rain; I am the fields of ripening grain. I am in the morning hush; I am in the graceful rush.
Of beautiful birds in circling flight, I am the starshine of the night. I am in the flowers that bloom, I am in a quiet room.
I am the birds that sing, I am in each lovely thing. Do not stand at my grave and cry, I am not there. I do not die. Mary Frye

Flag Song
Look up, there's our flag! We can count every star, And the red, blue, and white, How lovely they are!
Floating high, floating wide, We can see it from far, Our flag, it's the flag, We can count every star!
In the sun, in the wind, Do its bright colors shine. O look at the flag, It is yours, it is mine! Nancy Byrd Turner
Memorial Day Poems
The Poppies Blow
In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. John McCrae

I stand before you
I stand before you all today But not one eye can see my way
My time arrived, to leave this earth A fact so planned, to every birth
It happened where I had to go My torch for life was so aglow
I transferred while in uniform Protecting freedom, through a storm
Should I resent I died for you Not on my life, red white and blue
Please help my family through each day Tell all my friends, try not to stray
And of the country I did love Do think of me, through God above
Your memories, brought forth this day Send love to us, who could not stay Roger J. Robicheau
Memorial Day Poems
Ex-clerk
Pity not! The army gave Freedom to a timid slave: In which freedom did he find Strength of body, will, and mind: By which strength he came to prove Mirth, companionship, and love: For which love to death he went: In which death he lies content.

For those who fought and died For the families who have cried Despite the politicians who (may) have lied
Give a prayer or just stand silent Remember what their lives meant And it's okay to shed a tear For this land we hold so dear
The souls of soldiers past Will forever a shadow cast Upon this land from coast to coast So unto them I pledge this toast

MEMORIAL DAY SONG
Memorial Day Poems
Our God, Our Help in Ages Past
Our God, our help in ages past, Our hope for years to come, Our shelter from the stormy blast, And our eternal home.
Under the shadow of Thy throneSufficient is Thine arm alone, And our defense is sure.
Before the hills in order stood, Or earth received her frame, From everlasting Thou art God, To endless years the same.
Thy Word commands our flesh to dust, Return, ye sons of men: All nations rose from earth at first, And turn to earth again.
A thousand ages in Thy sight Are like an evening gone; Short as the watch that ends the night Before the rising sun.
The busy tribes of flesh and blood, With all their lives and cares, Are carried downwards by the flood, And lost in following years.
Time, like an ever rolling stream, Bears all its sons away; They fly, forgotten, as a dream Dies at the opening day.
Like flowery fields the nations stand Pleased with the morning light; The flowers beneath the mower’s hand Lie withering ere ‘tis night.
Our God, our help in ages past, Our hope for years to come, Be Thou our guard while troubles last, And our eternal home.
Memorial Day Poems
An Old Wooden Chair
An old wooden chair, out on the porch Shaded by trees, the sun couldn’t scorch
A child loved to play, not far away When tired this chair, was where to stay
If weather turned bad, as sometimes it would The young one would sit, those arms felt good
This haven of rest, always was there Like a mother in charge, always took care
As the years passed, the chair bore no change But the small one did grow, adding new range
How quickly through high school, time fled by And the child from that chair, said good-bye
Off to the service, such great pride did show Protector of freedom, youthful brave glow
A loved one of course, now guards this chair Holding fond memories, each one so dear
With prayers to God, dear mother does wait Till her brave one's home safe, a want so great
That now empty chair, shaded by trees If it could just talk, starting with "Please.. Roger J. Robicheau
